In March 2003, Jonathan Saunders's current employer asked him to cut his hair just after the filmming of "Quitting Time". Saunders refused and when his boss threatened to fire him if he didn't, Saunders quit. He stated that "Quitting Time" inspired him to do so.
Fox intended to shoot "Quitting Time" on Super 8 but decided to first shoot the entire movie on MiniDV very quickly and inexpensively as a sort of "moving storyboard". The digitally shot version ended up turning out so good that Fox decided to leave the project as is. Unfortunately, it was rejected by the Atlantic Film Festival in 2003, which propelled Fox to reshoot "Quitting Time" on Super 8 with producer Carla T. Foxe in 2004 with the same cast (except with Arthur Whitman from "Film Amateura" playing the store manager) and slightly revised and shorter script. The first shoot was cancelled due to a massive storm and the remake was never completed.
